Forgotten Voices
Piera Constantini Scala
7th November - 19th November 2007
Forgotten Voices is one of my first photographic stories, and was inspired by a trip I made last year to the Algerian desert. The Saharawi refugees were displaced in 1975 from Western Sahara because of the war with Morocco and have since been living in peace in the middle of the Algerian desert. The exhibition represents a journey, through images and text, from a dark and difficult place towards light. I'm interested in telling stories about people that live in communities or places and, in spite of their isolation or political status, are still capable of maintaining their culture and traditions through rites and tribal connections. I believe that through art one can transmit beauty and unedited stories, going from one place to an other, acting like a troubadour of the modern times.
