SUSSANAH FIENNES

b. 1961

Susannah Fiennes is among the most inventive figurative artists working in England today. TWFA were delighted to present her first one-woman show.

Susannah is a member of the multi-talented and ever resourceful Fiennes family, which includes such well-known figures as her actor cousins, Ralph and Joseph and her explorer uncle, Ranolph. Her career has taken her from a 1st class degree at the famous Slade School in London to numerous journeys with the Prince of Wales on his official travels, in her capacity as official tour artist.

Her works can be found, not only in the Prince's own collection, but in such important public institutions as The National Portrait Gallery and The Houses of Parliament. Barings Bank is one of her corporate supporters.

Five years of intensive study in New York, from 1999 to 2004, has given her work a new breadth and perception of her chosen subject. In this exhibition, Susannah has chosen to focus on the world of music and the act of making music. Coming from an artistic and musical family - her mother is an accomplished Viola player - she has explored the creative process of music making with a sympathy and an intensity that breaks new ground in the visual arts.
