David Caldwell was born in Helensburgh on the West Coast of Scotland. He studied painting at the Glasgow School of Art (1994-98) and has had several group shows in London and Glasgow, notably with The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and at the BP Portrait Award. His work relies on the intensity of painting in the presence of the subject, often outdoors, having been awarded residencies in France, Spain and Italy.
